Good news for riders in New Zealand! The Bikers Rights Organisation of New Zealand (BRONZ) has come together from a group of regional bodies into a consolidated national body that will consult with government to promote the positive and safe treatment of bikers (yeah that's us scooter types as well). They will also hopefully manage to prevent ridiculous rises in charges to bikers like the recent hikes in ACC Levies. The fact is that recent events in that particular area will, without a doubt reduce the amount of riders on our roads, that is the exact opposite to what the government should be promoting if they want to reduce emissions, reduce congestion, and generally improve quality of life for everyone who uses our roads, less people in cars means less traffic, crazy, knee jerk price hikes are literally pricing people out of bikes and scooters. Not to mention some decidedly questionable "safety" devices being installed on our Highways. Either way I only spoke to the new president on the phone for a few minutes the other day but he instills some faith that this revitalized BRONZ will make some positive changes for bikers. Good luck. Hit "Read More" for the full press release: Bikers Rights Organization of New Zealand, would like to announce on behalf of all Branches Nationwide, that a Committee has been formed as BRONZ Federation (Inc.) in a meeting at Lower Hutt on Saturday 11th September 2010.BRONZ Federation (Inc) is the collective voice to represent ALL BRONZ Branches and of course all of NZ’s motorcyclists with no bias of gender, age, class of license, type of bike, or lifestyle. The Federation is composed of 2 delegates from each current regional Branch:- Otago – Bob Gillespie and Nat Voight The Branches will be the driving force, bringing the issues they face to the Federation for it to take to Government via the appropriate channels. The Federation will communicate back to the Branches on issues it is dealing with that affect us at a national level and request their input. BRONZ as a collective can lay direct claim to having led the National Protest Ride last year, the BIKEOI, with the help and support of its Branches and other groups such as WIMA, Ulysses, HOG and many others.
