When Honda's VFR1200 hits showrooms in the USA and Europe it will feature a first in gearbox tech... a dual clutch automatic transmission, similar in operation to those seen in VW and Audi automobiles. The system features two clutches (surprise surprise) one which operates the even gears and one for the odd ones. There are three user selectable modes, they are: D-Mode when regular automatic operation is desired, S-Mode for a more aggressive auto shift and a fully manual mode that works just like a traditional six-speed sequential manual gearbox.

Honda say that the new transmission system can be applied to their other engine formats... does this mean we will soon see some supersport machines with the auto option? Damn I hope so, an ABS equipped, Auto FireBlade would be an absolutely blistering machine for road use... Do it and give us one!

For those of you who want the full PR info the press release is on page two.
