This cutting edge machine is simply astounding! With a massive 1600cc twin cylinder engine, disc brake and smooth 6 speed gear box the latest offering from Harley Davidson is a masterpiece. The big smooth engine produces heretofore unheard of power and torque propelling the machine across the countryside at breathtaking speed. There are also massive technological advancements in the electronics of the bike, there is an incredible system we have never seen before that tells you the distance, on a DIGITAL readout, until the machine runs out of fuel and this is supplemental to the fuel gauge... simply astounding! My only real gripe is the difficulty finding neutral although this is something I am sure I would get used to.
This is what the review would look like if it was written in 1953... The game has changed ever so slightly in the last few decades but the Fat Boy Low is designed to hark back to the classic bikes in Harley’s past... or so it would seem. So first things first, you don’t buy a Harley Davidson for earth shattering performance, you buy one first because it is a Harley Davidson and they have spent decades and millions so you will associate the name with freedom, quality and style. This has been phenomenally successful... so much so that when I turned up with the Fat Boy on Christmas day family and friends alike were heard to comment how lucky I was to get to ride one for a few weeks. So you spend the cash to get the name... this is not an uncommon thing by any stretch... I mean you don’t buy an MP3 player do you? You buy an iPod.
The second reason you buy a Harley also follows the analogy, you buy it (or that iPod) because it looks good. This I understand, if you are going to be associated with some product, judged by society on your purchase you want it to look the part and the Fat Boy sure does do that, it gathers a crowd wherever it goes. OK so far it ticks all the boxes... brand recognition: Check. Style and an appropriate response from the public: Massive Check!
