I’ve always wanted to be a space ranger…someone a bit like Buck Rogers. Life on Earth is somewhat dull and I dream of zipping around the galaxy having glorious space battles with strange looking aliens from planet Zipwad 3. Sadly I haven’t been invited into any kind of space ranger school and planet Zipwad is probably uninhabited. I have however come up with a solution. I can visit the future, actually we all can. It’s called the Honda DN-01 and it’s parked directly across from the cafe I’m sitting in. All I have to do is walk over the road and shazzam, I AM THE FUTURE BABY.
The DN-01 is really just another sports cruiser motorcycle when it comes to the riding part. It runs a 45Kw 680cc v-twin engine that provides reasonable but not inspiring acceleration. The bike handles as you’d expect for a 269kg (593lbs) low slung cruiser. It’s certainly not a light chuckable 125cc two stroke race machine. The DN-01 does runs a set of wide and sticky tires so it corners and brakes better than you’d expect for sports cruiser. Add these sticky tires to the powerful combined ABS brakes and the DN-01 is a surprisingly fun bike to carve through corners. So the low slung DN-01 rides well but certainly isn’t anything revolutionary…so what’s all this talk about the future. Well…DID YOU LOOK AT THIS THING. I don’t know what the DN-01 looks like; it certainly doesn’t look like any production motorcycle I’ve seen. Hell Buck Rogers would be impressed by this machine. It looks like a cross between a motorcycle, a fighter jet, a sci-fi movie and a science experiment. Now truth be told I’d seen pictures of the DN-01 and I thought it was pretty ugly. Then I saw it in the flesh, I was wrong. The DN-01 is cool. Not Confederate Hellcat cool, more “holy crap I can’t believe they made that” cool. Honda basically got a crazy concept bike and just built it. I hope they sell millions so motorcycle manufactures start actually producing the concept bikes we all love.
